Our Church Today

Today the Central Baptist Church in Perpignan, France, is the only conservative, non-charismatic church in Perpignan which has a population of 300,221 in the metropolitan area. Today we have about 30 church members, a dozen children, and around 20 regular and irregular visitors. There can be anywhere from 30-50 people in a Sunday worship service. On special occasions there may be up to 70 people.

The church has rented a former car garage of a downtown apartment building for about 30 years. In 1998, the owner decided to sell and we considered the possibility of buying the building. However, we lacked funds, which would not have given us any credibility to apply for a bank loan.

The current church building that we rent has a total surface area of 935 squared feet. The actual sanctuary in 700 squared feet. There is a small nursery room, a small Sunday school room, a very tiny kitchen, and only one small bathroom. With our limited space, it is difficult to do two different age groups in our Sunday school class, or welcome visitors and families comfortably. Without any possible room to grow, we consider it necessary to think about changing church buildings in the future and actually become the owner of our own church building.

Church History

In the summer of 1966, the Lord led an American missionary named A. Sommerville to start the first Baptist Church in Perpignan, France. A small group of Christians quickly formed, gathering together to listen to the Bible teaching. Several French pastors took care of the church during the years that followed. In the 1980's J.A. Delpuech became the pastor of the church.

In 1999, he welcomed a Bible student, David Sauvage, as his assistant pastor. One year later, Pastor Delpuech started to take care of another church in Limoges, a central region of France. He went to Limoges three week-ends every month, leaving the young assistant pastor in charge of the Perpignan church. During the fourth weekend, Pastor Delpuech would come back to Perpignan and David Sauvage would go to Limoges. These trips lasted for about one and a half years before Pastor Delquech finally decided to stay in Limoges.

The members of the Central Baptist Church voted David Sauvage as their pastor in 2002. The same year David met a young American missionary, Kimberly Graham, who had come to help the Knickerbocker family in the Christian Camp Rainbow. David and Kimberly were married one year later and started serving the Lord together in the Perpignan church. The church slowly grew in the years that followed.

Our Project Goal

Ever since we decided that we wanted to one day become owners of our own church building, the church started to save monthly toward this goal. In 2009, the women decided to do a church fundraising cookbook. Although very common in the United States, producing a fundraising church cookbook is rather unique in France. This project took one year to create, cooking with the French church members and formatting the recipes into a cookbook. There were 2,000 copies printed in French and 1,500 were sold in the following two years via other French churches.

After editing the French version, we wanted to translate it into English in order to keep saving for a future church building. It would also give American churches an opportunity to support the Lord's work in Perpignan, France. The cookbook took two years to translate, and every recipe in the book has been tested for final results.

So what kind of building are we looking for? We don't have unrealistic goals like buying a large lot and building a huge church. Real estate prices in France are exorbitant! We would however, like to find a small, abandoned grocery store building or something similar that we can renovate into a church building. We have our eye on one such grocery store. A couple years ago it was too expensive, but we hope the price will come down because it still has not sold. A building such as this one would be bigger and we could tailor the surface area to our needs. We could have many more side rooms for a proper nursery, Sunday school rooms, and more bathrooms! And the best part would be the parking lot. Right now, we have to drive around until we find a downtown parking spot. On some Sundays, when there are other downtown attractions, it is rather difficult to find a space. The government would also be more favorable to a church moving into the building if we had suitable parking. Whether it is this property or another that the Lord has reserved for us, we know He will provide when the time is right.

Jésus nous décrit trois étapes qui se suivent : Premièrement demeurer dans sa Parole. Deuxièmement connaître la vérité. Troisièmement être délivré par la vérité.

Quelle merveilleuse chose que de voir la mort vaincue ! Vivre après la mort...

Les hommes proposent soit d'atteindre le nirvana, soit de vivre éternellement sur cette terre, soit d'entrer dans un paradis charnel, soit de descendre dans la tombe pour ne plus en ressortir. Jésus a dit : "Je suis la résurrection et la vie. Celui qui croit en moi vivra même s'il meurt"

Pâque

Les chrétiens du monde entier fêtent Pâque sans toujours réaliser son origine. Nous aurions tendance à mettre un "s" et dire les fêtes de Pâques. Mais l'origine est dans l'histoire juive avec la sortie d'Égypte. C'est de là que vient ce terme de Pâque, Pessah.

Dieu a donné cette fête avec beaucoup détails pour nous enseigner sur la venue future du Messie d'Israël.

Ce n'est point l'homme qui cherche Dieu, mais bien Dieu qui cherche les hommes. Et il le fait au travers de ses enfants fidèles qui diront : "Nous vous en supplions, soyez réconciliés avec Dieu".

Bien des chrétiens ne se sentent peut-être pas capables d'apporter la parole de la réconciliation autour d'eux. Mais la Parole de Dieu nous montre que tous les fils et filles de Dieu en ont la réelle capacité.

Eglise de Banyuls

Depuis plusieurs années, le pasteur Francisco Canfran travaille sur Banyuls sur mer.

Les frères et sœurs de Banyuls vous accueilleront chaque semaine, le mardi à 19h30 pour prier, le jeudi à 19h30 pour étudier la Parole de Dieu. Ainsi qu'un dimanche sur deux à 16h00 pour un culte.
